Artistic Ink PMU Academy

Training Requirements &

Professional Standards

At Artistic Ink PMU Academy, every training is designed with safety, professionalism, and excellence in mind. Whether you are beginning your PMU journey or refining your advanced skills, our goal is to protect your future, your clients, and the integrity of this industry.

Permanent makeup is more than a beauty service — it is a professional practice that requires responsibility, precision, sanitation, and legal awareness.

Because our trainings may include hands-on technical practice, all students must meet specific requirements before participating in certain portions of the training, especially if live model work is included.

These standards are in place to protect our students, models, instructor, and the professional reputation of every artist trained through Artistic Ink PMU Academy.

Phase I

Foundations of Excellence

For beginner artists entering the PMU industry.

This phase is designed for new artists who are building their foundation in permanent makeup. The focus is on safety, skin knowledge, machine control, mapping, hand movement, and structured practice before working on real skin.

Requirements

  • Secure enrollment with required deposit

  • Sign student agreement before training

  • Submit valid government-issued ID

  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens training

  • Submit Hepatitis B vaccination record or declination form

  • Understand that this training does not grant legal permission to practice independently

  • Practice Scope for Beginners

Live model practice is not automatically included for beginner students. Students may only perform procedures on a live model if they meet all legal requirements, including proper practitioner registration or temporary practitioner approval when applicable.

Beginner training practice may include:

  • Latex practice

  • Mapping exercises

  • Machine control

  • Needle movement

  • Safety and sanitation protocols

  • Technique development

Phase II

Advanced Mastery

For trained artists ready to refine, elevate, and perfect their technique.

This phase is designed for artists who already have fundamental PMU training and are ready to advance their skills through a higher level of precision, strategy, and professional execution.

Advanced training is ideal for artists who want to improve their healed results, technique control, confidence, and overall professional standard.

Requirements

  • Secure enrollment with a $1,000 non-refundable deposit

  • Sign advanced student agreement

  • Submit valid government-issued ID

  • Submit proof of previous PMU fundamental training

  • Submit current Bloodborne Pathogens certification

  • Submit Hepatitis B vaccination record or declination form

  • Submit Body Art Practitioner Registration / Tattoo Permit

  • Carry professional liability insurance

  • Complete remaining payment on or before the first training day

  • Live Model Practice Requirement

If a student will perform any procedure on a live model during training, the student must have an active Body Art Practitioner Registration or an approved Temporary Body Art Practitioner Registration when applicable.

Students who are not currently registered in Sonoma County must contact Sonoma County Environmental Health and complete the proper temporary practitioner process before model work.

Compliance Flexibility & Model Session Rescheduling

We understand that licensing and temporary practitioner approval may take time. If a student's practitioner registration or temporary permit is not approved before the scheduled training date, the student may still attend and complete all non-live model portions of the training.

This may include:

  • Theory

  • Technique demonstration

  • Mapping

  • Latex practice

  • Machine control

  • Safety review

  • Personalized coaching

Once the student's required documentation is approved, the student may schedule a future date to complete the live model portion of the training.

  • Important Notice

Live model work will not be performed without proper documentation. No exceptions.

This policy protects the student, the model, the instructor, and the professional integrity of the training.

A Higher Standard of PMU Education

At Artistic Ink PMU Academy, we do not simply teach techniques — we train artists to understand responsibility, precision, safety, and long-term results.

Every requirement exists for one purpose: to protect your future, your clients, and your reputation.

Because mastery is not only about what you create. It is about how you create it.

Training Policies & Legal Disclaimer

Please read the following carefully. By enrolling in any Artistic Ink PMU Academy training program, you acknowledge and agree to all terms below.

01 Educational Purpose Disclaimer

Artistic Ink PMU Academy provides private training in permanent makeup (PMU) techniques for educational and skill-development purposes only. Participation in any training program does not qualify the student as a licensed practitioner. Artistic Ink PMU Academy is not a state-accredited school and does not issue government-recognized certifications or licenses.

02 Licensing & Legal Responsibility

Permanent makeup (PMU) is regulated under body art (tattooing) laws, which vary by state, county, and local jurisdiction. It is the sole responsibility of each student to research local laws and regulations, obtain all required licenses and permits, and ensure legal eligibility to practice. Artistic Ink PMU Academy does not guarantee licensing approval or legal authorization to perform PMU services.

03 California & Sonoma County Guidelines

For students planning to practice in California, permanent makeup is regulated under the Safe Body Art Act. Students must verify requirements directly with their local health department, as regulations vary by county.

05 Certificate of Completion

Upon completion of a training program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Artistic Ink PMU Academy. This certificate confirms participation and completion of training. It does not grant a license to practice and is not a state-recognized certification. Students must independently fulfill all licensing requirements in their jurisdiction.

06 No Guarantee of Results

Artistic Ink PMU Academy provides education, guidance, and technical instruction based on professional experience. However, results may vary depending on individual skill level, practice and consistency, prior experience, and compliance with technique. We do not guarantee specific outcomes, business success, or financial results.

07 Student Responsibility Agreement

By enrolling in any training, the student agrees to take full responsibility for their actions during and after training, practice only where legally permitted, continue education before working on clients independently, and follow safety and hygiene standards. Students acknowledge that improper application of PMU techniques may result in harm and accept full responsibility for their professional conduct.

08 Liability Waiver

Artistic Ink PMU Academy, its instructors, and affiliates are not liable for misuse of techniques taught, improper application on clients, failure to comply with laws and regulations, or business or financial outcomes. By enrolling, students agree to release Artistic Ink PMU Academy from any legal claims related to their professional activities.
